Maui. Oh how I wish I could be in vacation mode on Maui FOOORREEVVEEEERRRR. It was a wonderful family trip with a whole lot of relaxing, eating, sightseeing and then some more eating (of course). I wanted to share some of our favorite places & activities while visiting the lovely island, and of course some images I snapped along the way.
We spent the first few days mostly laying on the beach soaking in the sun, I think I even got sunburnt for the first time in my life! But one of the first mornings while we were still on CA time we left our hotel at 3am to head up Haleakala to watch the sunrise over the crater and then rode back down the volcano on bicycles! It was an early morning but that sunrise was well worth it.
BUUUTTTT it was not a warm morning- it was about 38 degrees up on top of the volcano. It felt odd to be packing my North Face jacket along with my bikinis but thankful I did! Isn't the inside of the crater incredible?! Everyone else was saying how they only needed to see that once, (maybe since it was so cold and super early) but I would have gone up there every morning to witness that beauty if I could.
We spent a lot of time driving and sightseeing around the island. I was in heaven because everything was so so SO green. If you haven't already guessed my favorite color is green . These next images are from random locations on the island, mostly from a scary drive on a one-lane, two way road. OH! I almost forgot... We came across a yummy banana bread stand on Kahekili HWY and it was a hit.
Hana is always a wonderful day trip! It gets a little too busy for my taste but we managed to find a lot of quiet places as well as the BEST EVER coconut ice-cream. Literally the best. Coconut Glen's is so cute with a handful of flavors, dairy-free and insanely delicious. Not to mention the cute puppy we got to give some love to!
The ice-cream was so good that my mom didn't even notice I was taking a photo! YUMYUMYUM.
One last food recommendation- If you happen to be in Paia and are in need of some pizza Flatbread Company is super yum! Not to mention its great atmosphere
This trip to Maui we went snorkeling (which is pretty much my favorite thing) but this time we went on the backside of Molokini and it was so gorgeous! Pretty terrifying if you looked around at the crater wall covered in coral and the huge waves crashing on top of you shoving you towards the scary wall of doom but once you put your head in the water it was unreal. I wish I was a fish. Or a sea turtle maybe? I love them all. But since that is impossible I will just have to stick to flippers and goggles.
